Advanced birdwatching: bird diversity and habitat restoration at Myponga Reservoir Reserve
Description
Do you have an active interest in birdwatching and want to learn more about how bird communities use different habitats?
Join us together with Nature Play SA at Myponga Reservoir Reserve for an advanced birdwatching session exploring bird diversity and abundance, with a focus on the role of habitat restoration in supporting declining woodland species.
We’ll begin with introductions, an Acknowledgement of Country and an overview of Reservoirs for Nature. We’ll then discuss the birds found across the reserve and consider how the project’s restoration work aims to improve habitat for woodland birds.
The session will include structured surveys in different areas, giving participants an opportunity to record observations and contribute to our understanding of the reserve’s birdlife.
We’ll undertake two 500-metre area searches, walking west and east from a central point, followed by a 2-hectare, 20-minute search or point count. Along the way, we’ll combine survey methods with ecological storytelling and discuss how bird communities may respond as revegetation progresses.
This session is intended for people with an active interest in birdwatching. Some familiarity with identifying birds will be helpful.
