Advanced Keeping Kids Safe is a 6-hour professional development workshop, that follows on from the SASS Introduction to Keeping Kids Safe

workshop.

Participants will build on their knowledge from the introductory session, and will gain an understanding of assessment and treatment tools for harmful sexual behaviour (HSB) of children. The approaches covered in the workshop help to reduce the occurrence and impacts of child sexual assault, and create a safer community for young people.

Registration is open to anyone who works with children and young people, and has completed Introduction to Keeping Kids Safe within the previous 12 months.

Topics include:
• Aetiology of sexually abusive and problematic behaviours.
• Introductory assessment and treatment tools for Problem Sexual Behaviours(PSB) and Sexually Abuse Behaviours(SAB).
• Safety planning for children and young people exhibiting PSB and SAB.

Advanced Keeping Kids Safe Learning outcomes:
• Greater understanding of how to identify, respond to and support a young person using HSB in your work.
• Improved capacity to address and minimise the impact of trauma for people who experience or engage in HSB.
• Knowledge of how to support community members and minimise drivers of HSB.
• Awareness of tools available to assist in gathering information and identifying patterns or gaps to help understand what might be driving a behaviour.
• Ability to use information gathered to for safety and wellbeing plans that focus on positive outcomes for the young person.
