Advanced Seating Assessment and Prescription (Melbourne)

Price $260 AUD Register

Event description

Our ‘Advanced Seating Assessment and Prescription’ workshop has been designed to enhance your clinical practice so you can confidently navigate the complexities of seating assessment and prescription.

Led by industry-respected clinicians boasting over 40 years of combined experience, join Kate Pain (GTK), Edward Milner (Medifab), and the GTK team as they share invaluable insights into the assessment and prescription of seating, drawing from their extensive clinical backgrounds.

This immersive two-day workshop offers a unique opportunity to:

  • Master the art of conducting a thorough MAT evaluation
  • Gain a deep understanding of the principles of biomechanics and how they are applied to seating posture
  • Effectively translate assessment findings into practical product parameters
  • Develop problem-solving skills through real case scenarios
  • Hone clinical justification skills, essential for crafting successful funding applications
  • Seamlessly integrate acquired knowledge into product setup and clinical practice.

We’ll also have numerous opportunities for practical, hands-on exploration of seating and positioning equipment. Get tips and tricks from professionals who use the equipment every day as you learn the nuances of adjusting wheelchair seating for optimal client positioning. Each participant will receive a backpack with a curated GTK seating tool set, ensuring you will have the exact tools you need for making on-the-spot adjustments to seating systems in the field.

You’ll receive individualised instruction and feedback during practical activities, achieving the following learning objectives:

  • Identify wheelchair and seating components and articulate possible adjustments for each
  • Demonstrate confident use of tools necessary to adjust wheelchair and seating components
  • Describe the clinical reasoning behind optimal positioning of wheelchair and seating components.

‘Advanced Seating Assessment and Prescription’ is tailored for clinicians with experience in seating prescription looking to further deepen their expertise in the area. For newer prescribers, consider our 'Foundations of Seating Assessment' workshop which is tailored to build fundamental skills.

    Meet the Presenters

    Kate Pain (GTK)

Kate comes from an occupational therapy background, with two decades of experience in varied settings, specialising in wheelchair seating and positioning. She finds the evolution of power wheelchair alternate drive technology fascinating, and looks forward to exciting innovations becoming more readily available in power wheelchairs.

Kate really enjoys appointments with children who are trying out a wheelchair for the first time. She loves seeing the excitement in their eyes as they move independently for the first time – it’s contagious!

Kate also enjoys working with adults trialling a wheelchair for the first time, who have a lifetime of limiting perceptions about using a wheelchair, who then realise that the right equipment can amplify their abilities and enjoyment of life.

    Edward Milner (Medifab)

Edward completed his Occupational Therapy training in Brisbane and has worked in various health fields including Adult Disability, Mental Health and Spinal Cord Injury. Edward specialised in wheelchair prescription during his time in England working within a spinal cord injury rehabilitation unit and the NHS wheelchair service. He returned to Australia with these clinical skills and continued supporting individuals with neurological conditions in the community before crossing over to a product consultant role scripting mobility equipment.

Edward is passionate about supporting therapists develop confidence in wheelchair seating prescription with the goal to ensure that Medifab and Spex end-users are happy, functional, and comfortable within their seating systems.
