Affirming Approaches to Repetitive & Compulsive Behaviours

Autism, ADHD, OCD, body-focused repetitive behaviours, tics, Tourette’s, depression and anxiety frequently co-occur. All feature repetitive behaviours with different names, including compulsions, stimming, echolalia, hyperactivity, skin-picking, hair-pulling, tics, worrying, rumination, and self-harm.

When these behaviours are misunderstood and mislabelled, therapy can be ineffective and even harmful. Yet it’s easy to get tied up in knots trying to find the correct label for these behaviours.

This new webinar will help you identify the different functions of repetitive behaviours, enabling you to flexibly align your therapeutic approach to the needs of the individual.

You'll learn a simple, pragmatic, functional approach to repetitive behaviours, and how to teach your clients to identify the meaning of their own behaviours, how they may signal unmet needs, and how to respond with self-compassion.

Presented by Jennifer Kemp, an Autistic and ADHDer clinical psychologist, this 1.5-hour webinar will teach you how to:

🫶🏽 Distinguish between "disordered" behaviour and valid neurodivergent needs
🙏🏽 Provide therapy that is respectful, affirming and flexibly meets your client's needs

Please note, this is an intermediate-to-advanced level webinar. Attendees will be assumed to understand the foundations of neurodiversity-affirming practice and the information processing differences that underpin neurodivergence including Autism and ADHD.
