African drumming is fun and therapeutic!
It includes the physical, emotional and spiritual.
African hand drums are played to communicate, celebrate, mourn and inspire.
They're played in times of peace and war, planting and harvesting, birth and death.
Our teacher-
Agbeko DeSouza (Agbe) with his kiwi wife Melissa and their baby, have come from Ghana, West
Africa to make New Zealand their home.
Agbe brings to us his substantial experience in traditional African music which is a part of daily life in Ghana.
Leading the Ghanaian group ‘Africana Fefeworwor Dance Ensemble’ and through the ‘Dagara Music
Centre’, he has taught drumming and dancing to his members, tourists and musicians from all over
the world.
He has a charismatic and joyful style which he has showcased in performances in Africa, Italy, UAE,
via zoom to the USA, and now throughout New Zealand.
As a teacher he creates a fun, supportive space for each student to explore and build on their
abilities. Agbe encourages his students to express themselves by connecting with the music, helping
to releasing tension and old energy patterns.
Students leave Agbe’s workshops with a spring in their step and refreshed outlook on life.
