Description

Do you have African lovegrass on your property?

This tussock-forming, summer-active grass produces thousands of seeds each year, allowing it to rapidly spread and dominate large areas. It can contaminate produce, reduce land productivity, suppress preferred pasture species, provide minimal grazing value, and pose a significant fire risk.

While managing African lovegrass can feel overwhelming, there are practical and effective options available. This field day will showcase real on-ground management activities and provide practical guidance suitable for your property.

In-paddock demonstrations:

  • Drone monitoring and whole-of-paddock drone herbicide application

  • Viewing and interpreting herbicide trial plots

  • Outcomes from a controlled burn area

Hear from local experts:

  • PIRSA - African Lovegrass Program overview, site interpretation and what works in African lovegrass management

  • Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu - Regional history of African lovegrass and the 5-step management plan

  • Barossa Drones - Providing a demonstration on drone monitoring.

This is a valuable opportunity to see management approaches in action, ask questions, and connect with others tackling African lovegrass in the region. Granular herbicide (flupropanate) sample handouts will be available for existing program participants, with leftovers available to attendees on the day.

As this is an in-field event with limited facilities, attendees should be prepared with long pants and closed shoes, and other sun-smart clothing. Please come prepared for changeable weather and bring a bottle of water. Tea and coffee along with a morning tea will be provided.

The African Lovegrass Control Program is funded by the regional landscape levy, the Australian Government and the Government of South Australia through the African Lovegrass – Building Regional Strength for National Impact Program.
