AFTER DISASTER PROJECT

Tickets: This is a free concert for the community, but people will need to book online to secure their place. Tickets will be available from Wednesday 19th October. Please bring cushions and blankets. There will be chairs available for those who need them, otherwise it is floor seating.
Four local songwriters - Harry James Angus, Emily Lubitz, Ash Grunwald, and Janet Swain – have been working with kids from both The Pocket and Main Arm Schools - many of whom experienced the full force of the floods that came through the area not once, but twice -
to create a song cycle of nine songs about the floods, natural disasters, climate change and future action.
These stories have come directly from conversations with the kids - and their stories will make you laugh, cry and reflect on the changes in our world. These songs are their songs. Their stories.
Local film maker Sharon Shostak has been filming this amazing process, capturing some of the brilliant poetry and insights of our local kids.
There is only one performance – 200 local kids singing with a fabulous backing band that includes the songwriters as well as bassist Rod Coe and drummer Jamie Patulgalan.
The Main Arm Year 5/6 percussion ensemble mentored by composer and percussionist Michael Askill will present a sonic reflection on the flood event.
The show kicks off with the Welcome to Country, followed by local singer songwriter Abbie Cardwell performing with Big Voice Choir.
Performance Date: Wednesday 26 October 2022 from 5.30pm
Venue: St John’s Primary School Hall, 11 Murwillumbah Road, Mullumbimby.
