After the Bell: Celebrate sustainably with The Party Kit Network and Erin Rhoads
Event description
Join Erin Rhoads as she shares how to celebrate sustainably with the Party Kit Network
Single-use plastics make up for a third of litter in Victoria and although the state is banning single-use plastics, many items still end up in landfill, including bioplastics, which can contaminate recycling and waste streams.
Throwing parties means sourcing tableware that is often made of plastic and the waste piles up fast.
The Party Kit Network, originally founded in the UK and now in Australia, is a nonprofit social enterprise that reduces single-use plastics by offering a library of reusable party supplies like plates, cups, and, in some cases, decorations. People can borrow party items for events from one another, libraries, and community centres.
Erin Rhoads is an environmental advocate focused on community-driven sustainability who helped bring The Party Kit Network to Australia. She founded her blog, The Rogue Ginger, in 2013 as a go-to resource for sustainable living and published the books Waste Not: Make a Big Difference by Throwing Away Less (2018) and Waste Not Everyday (2019).
