After the Bell: Tackling Excess School Stationery with Project Stationery

A 2024 study shows that Australians spend an average of $512 on back-to-school items, with stationery being the main purchase. Another research found that 10% of families discard school supplies still in good condition.

Community-driven initiatives like Project Stationery collect surplus stationery, sort it, and redistribute it to those in need.

The items collection is free, operates during the summer break, and gives excess stationery a new life.

The pilot run of Project Stationery rehomed 41,299 items across 23 groups and schools— and it's just getting started.

Project Stationery founder and teacher Amelia Trompf will provide attendees with:

    • An overview of Project Stationery
    • Case studies on schools involved in the program
    • Information on how to participate as a school and as a volunteer.
