Event description

Welcome to "Afterours," an exhibition project that shines a spotlight on the vibrant community hub, Afterours studio, that blossomed in Tamaki Makaurau as we embarked upon a new decade in 2019. Far more than a mere documentation, "Afterours" is a celebration of diverse collectives pulsating within our community, embodying the spirit of creativity, collaboration, and cultural exchange, sponsored by Toi Waitemata Local Board.

At its core, "Afterours" mirrors the ethos of Matariki, exalting the present, paying homage to the past, and nurturing a vibrant tapestry of cultural dialogue. In the spirit of Matariki, our event embraces two key principles: rejuvenation and wānanga. Drawing inspiration from the concept of rejuvenation during Matariki, we see parallels with the legacy of "Afterours." Just as Matariki heralds a time of renewal and setting intentions for the year to come, "Afterours" provided whenua for future imagining that became a vibrant creative landscape. The metaphorical whenua is now laid bare and ready for the new generation of rangatahi to plant their ideas and seeds. Our event seeks to honour this transition by providing a platform for emerging talents and fresh perspectives to thrive, ensuring that the legacy of "Afterours" continues to evolve and flourish.

In the tradition of Matariki being a space for wānanga, or sharing whakapapa and mātauranga, we envision our exhibition space as a community wānanga where ideas are exchanged, stories are shared, and connections are forged. We invite you to join us in this celebration of community, creativity, and cultural exchange. Through the immense funding and support, made possible by Toi Waitemata, we invite you to sit in for two talanoa session(s):

Artist talk (Talanoa) - 29th of June - 3pm till 5pm (click here to book)

Artist talk (Talanoa) - 05th of July - 5pm till 7pm (click here to book)

Welcome to "Afterours": where the spirit of Matariki shines brightly, illuminating our collective journey of growth, renewal, and connection. The show will be running for a week from the opening date, 28/06/24, to the 05/07/24. We look forward to welcoming you to our exhibition.
