The Aged Care Conference Bali 2024 is open to all medical and health professionals and covers topics relating to the latest aged and residential care practices. While the sessions are most relevant to those working in the aged and residential care sector, all are welcome!

The conference timetable is designed so you are not sitting in a conference room for day after day. Rather, the sessions are designed with a combination of morning and afternoon sessions so participants can maximise their days exploring the beauty and excitement of Bali. Some of the highlights of the conference include:

Site Visits

A feature of the conference will be the opportunity to visit an Indonesian aged care or healthcare facility. You can select one of four different facilities to visit. At the facilities, you will learn about the services offered by the facility, gain an understanding of the unique challenges they face and hear about how cultural considerations are a part of their organisation.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Our speakers are domestic and international experts from across the aged care industry, including thought leaders and innovators.
Their background and experience extend from bedside care to national and international engagements. They will share new research, strategies, and techniques to help progress your work and career, as they explore topics like innovative leadership, clinical care, and the future of aged care.

Most presentations will have an interactive component, providing participants with an engaging experience to enhance critical thinking, collaboration and innovation about the topic.

Presenters include;

Michael Verde
Michael Verde is an award-winning writer, speaker, documentary producer and teacher. He founded Memory Bridge—an internationally recognized NGO dedicated to ending the emotionally isolation of people with dementia—in 2003. Memory Bridge’s programs are hosted on three continents and provide ongoing education to caregivers in 14 countries. To date, Memory Bridge has connected over 9,000 people with and without dementia in one-to-one relationships.

Michael has an M.A. in literary studies from the University of Iowa and an M.A. in theology from the University of Durham, England, where he graduated at the top of his international class. He is currently completing his PhD dissertation at Indiana University in the area of empathetic communication and literature and religion.

Adjunct Prof Rodney Jilek, PhD
Rodney has over 30 years of experience in aged care, facility management, regulatory compliance and accreditation. He holds tertiary qualifications in Nursing, Health Science, Health Services Management, Public Health and Gerontology. He is the Founder and Managing Director of Community Home Australia and CHA International Resorts. Rodney is also an Associate Professor at the University of Canberra.

He has held the position of Director of Quality & Compliance with a major NFP aged care provider overseeing the accreditation of 38 homes (2,400 beds) in NSW and Qld. managed aged care services across the profit and NFP sectors including mainstream homes

He has also held senior positions within the Department of Health in compliance, complaints resolution and as a national Clinical Advisor. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, authored an Australian best-selling book and presented at over 20 major national and international conferences.

Monique Pockran
Monique, with extensive aged care experience, founded Dahlia Dementia Guidance and Support in 2023 to positively impact those affected by dementia. Drawing from lived experience, she navigates aged care complexities, aspiring to offer a more compassionate, informed, and inclusive approach, prioritizing holistic well-being for individuals, families, caregivers, and communities.

Nadine Ozols
A powerful and innovative leader, Nadine is an advocate for the sector and has strongly embraced the aged care reform agenda the Australian Government have outlined to strive for a better aged care sector that receives appropriate funding. Nadine is the CEO of Aged Care Deloraine in Tasmania where she leads a drive for change, innovation and achieving the organisation’s strategic direction.

Aaron Richardson
Aaron Richardson has worked extensively throughout the Covid -19 pandemic within the Aged Care and Disability industries, utilised as a national resource and recognized as a Subject Matter Expert within this field. Aaron’s background in primary healthcare, aged care, and Indigenous health. He is passionate about and has been an Advisor Member of the Primary Health Care Committee with Healthy Male (Andrology Australia) since June 2019.

Jean Palalagi-Gunston
Jean is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years in the aged care sector. Holding a Master's in Health Science and a postgraduate degree in Gerontology from Victoria University, Australia, she's now pursuing a PhD at Swinburne University. Jean has held leadership roles and worked with Australia's Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission with the Complaints Department. She now serves as the VIC/NSW Care and Quality Manager at Aveo Group and is preparing to publish her first scholarly article.

William Kim
With a background in both clinical and community environments, William has led communicable disease teams in almost every Australian state (and this was even before COVID!). William is a highly respected Public Health expert whose motivation is to prevent and manage the transmission of communicable diseases, and educate and empower individuals to take ownership of their well-being.

Nicole Smith
Nicole Smith is a Registered Nurse and Gerontology Consultant with over 22 years in the health industry and aged care management. Nicole is committed to making a positive difference within the aged care sector and is the founder of Community Café Health & Wellness, which hosts free intergenerational cafes for people with dementia and their families in ACT. Nicole works on a variety of aged care projects, is a Board Member and Director and aged care educator, advisor and public speaker

Hailey Carpen
Hailey is an Aged Care Nurse Practitioner with the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, based in Nepean Hospital, Penrith. Hailey worked in ICU for 28 years where she completed Nurse Practitioner training. Three years later she transitioned to Aged Care and now works as Nurse Practitioner in the Virtual Aged Care Service (VACS). She is a member of the Psychogeriatric Nurses’ Association (Australia) and co-author of several research papers, including “Improving Advance Care Planning in high-risk hospitalised patients: a knowledge translation pilot study” Hailey is committed to providing individualised care in a respectful and caring manner.

Claire Brennan
Claire Brennan is a Facility Manager who has worked in the aged care sector for over 20 years in a variety of senior positions. An operational and change management expert, Claire will share her experience managing regional facilities and reflect on the challenges dealing with Boards, staffing, AHPRA and compliance, while ensuring a high standard of care and services is delivered to her residents.

Rachel Rushe
Rachel Rushe is an experienced Clinical Manager working in Australia initially as Registered Nurse, she was quickly elevated to Regional Clinical Coordinator in the Aged Care Sector and later promoted to NSW Clinical Manager. Originally from Dublin, Rachel has experienced the difficulties of arriving in Australia alone, having since established an organisation assisting nurses to acclimatise to the Australian culture through social and professional connections

Dr Ainslie Murtikos
Ainslie is an experienced registered nurse and a respected and dedicated academic affiliated with Central Queensland University. With nearly three decades of experience in health and aged care, her passion lies in transforming the aged care sector. Ainslie’s visionary leadership to empower registered nurses through higher education is the driving force behind aged care transformation, ensuring high-quality, safe, and elevated standards of practice while enhancing the professional identity and impact of registered nurses as being the critical link in the provision of care in this vital specialty. Through her PhD, published research, and as a director of her own aged care company, Ainslie’s relentless and passionate pursuit of progress is revolutionising aged care practices and education alike.

Dr Rob Godby
Rob has gained local and international experience working with large multinationals, small businesses and teaching at the tertiary level. His speciality areas include learning, leadership, change, strategy, engagement and talent management. Rob’s work in aged care includes engagements with Bolton Clarke, BUPA, Scalabrini and Estia. While with Allianz Group, Rob worked with country CEOs and global heads to deliver global outcomes to support change, innovation, and strategy execution. His work with Intercontinental Hotels Group saw him lead close to 100 employees and support change across APAC.

Craig Hooper
Craig is a healthcare management consultant with more than 30 years of health and consulting experience delivering organisational, operational and clinical outcomes. Dedicated to strengthening clinicians, organisations and systems, Craig has worked in a range of aged and healthcare organisations, developing operational improvement, gap analyses, quality improvement processes, compliance strategies and implementing change. He is currently implementing the CHA International Resort in Amlapura, Bali.

Amanda Doyle
Amanda Doyle is not just a Chief Executive Officer; she is a compassionate Aboriginal and PWD who is a leader in legislation and contract management, with a profound commitment to person-centered approaches in the Aged Care sectors. Amanda Doyle is a distinguished executive, with 15 years of significant high-level experience in Federal and State Government and NFP sectors, Amanda seamlessly advocates for the national strategic direction and corporate vision. Amanda's innovative mindset within regulatory frameworks sets her apart. She creatively implements solutions, improving services, and addressing unique challenges in Aged Care. Amanda actively engages in advocacy efforts for the rights and well-being of frail and Aged. Her leadership has led to measurable outcomes, including improvements in client satisfaction and positive shifts in key performance indicators.

Amy Tinley
Amy is a registered nurse of 16 years and has been working in aged care for 11 years. She has an extensive background in nursing management and running multiple aged care homes. With 5 years of executive management roles and a focus on quality and compliance, Amy loves sharing her knowledge and so began taking on consulting roles and establishing her own Nurse Advisory and Consulting company

Jacob Rouser LLB
Jacob is the Business Development Manager of an aged care consulting company. He brings almost a decade of experience working for state government bodies. After 6 years in enforcement he moved to prosecutions where he worked with executive management and appeared regularly before magistrates in the Local and Childrens Court. Jacob has a Bachelor of Laws from University New England and has just returned to Australia after leading the Community Management team at Germany's largest mapping app for hikers and cyclists. He is passionate about community and excited to bring his knowledge and experience to the aged care sector.

Sherrie Boucher
Sherrie has over 20 years of experience in the Health and Aged Care Industry and specialises in advisory and operational governance support to commercial and not-for-profit organisations. Her experience includes governance, compliance and risk management, clinical management, funding maximisation, facilities management, mentoring and leadership development. Sherrie works alongside Australian aged care providers to help them navigate the complexities of compliance and uncover any gaps they did not know existed.
