Event description

We warmly welcome you to join us for:

Our Second Ageing Wellness Workshop

It was wonderful to see so many of you at our first workshop and to witness the connections and reconnections among members.

Our Ageing Wellness Initiative aims to foster a supportive community where parents and carers of loved ones with Down syndrome can come together to connect, share experiences, and discuss concerns, successes, and insights as we navigate the journey of Down syndrome and ageing.

This workshop is all about taking a moment to pause, breathe, and have fun.

We are thrilled to introduce a special guest for this workshop,  Emily Copper, who will guide us through some simple breathing techniques and yoga moves, followed by an uplifting African drumming session.

Drums will be provided, so all you need to do is come along in comfortable clothing, ready for a fun and energizing experience!

Facilitators

Emily Cooper – Yoga, Drumming Teacher.

Emily Cooper has worked in community development through the arts for over 19 years, in settings that include team building, mental health services, refugee supports, schools, retreats and festivals. Director of Hands Heart & Feet, Emily brings genuine warmth, inclusivity and creativity to her work with drum, dance and storytelling.

Emily has a bachelor's degree in Contemporary Dance from Western Sydney University, from which she graduated with the Deans Medal of Honour. She has extensive knowledge of dementia care, specifically related to Down syndrome, and incorporates this expertise into her training programs. Her comprehensive understanding of the NDIS and planning processes further enhances the Down Syndrome NSW community, empowering families and individuals with the tools they need to navigate complex systems.
