If we’re lucky, we will age and we will die. Yet the ageing and dying phase of life goes unnoticed and unsupported in the social change space. Why is this?

Ageing and dying is all around us, all of the time. 4.2 million people in Australia are over 65, and this segment of our population is growing. And every three minutes a person in Australia dies. Every three minutes there is an opportunity for more connection, more love, more resolution, driven by people power.

Unfortunately, the experience of ageing and dying is currently fraught with deep challenges for many in our society. We know that there is huge potential to make a significant difference to the lives of ageing Australians, including as they approach death. Yet funding this important work is an ongoing challenge.

Positive ageing attracts less than 2% of philanthropic investment in Australia.

Meanwhile, government funding in aged care primarily focuses on clinical care, leading to a critical gap in investment for initiatives that address the social and emotional wellbeing of community members as they age.

If we back the people passionate about driving change, we all win.

But we can’t do it alone.

On behalf of Proveda, Good Flock, 5Point Foundation and the Wicking Trust, you are invited to join us for a 1 hour conversation on the morning of Wednesday 7th August at 7:30am – 8:30am before Day 2 of the Philanthropy Australia Conference.

We hope this will be an interactive discussion, however you are welcome to listen and reflect. We will be exploring the question: ‘How might we spark and channel a significant growth in investment to support innovators shifting how we do ageing and death?"
