Day 01 (LD) HOME TO TAMWORTH                                              Tuesday 20 August 2024

Welcome to our 4-day tour to Tamworth featuring AgQuip in Gunnedah. This morning, after loading the coach, we are ready to go.  Heading west along the Gwydir Hwy towards Glen Innes we stop to look at The Standing Stones, high on the hilltop overlooking the township.  The Stones are the national monument to Australia’s Celtic pioneers and are recognised by the Celtic Council of Australia as the national gathering point for Celtic descendants and clans.  We continue south to Bendemeer via Armidale - the richest wool producing district in the country.  It is one of the founding cities of this historic region and it provides a wonderful contrast between a bustling modern commercial centre and a bygone era. On arrival into Bendemeer, we head to the Bendemeer Hotel for lunch. This afternoon we travel through to Tamworth.  On arrival we check into our accommodation and have time to freshen up before dinner in the hotel

Day 03 (BLD) TAMWORTH                                                                 Thursday 22 August 2024

We start the day at the Tamworth Power Station Museum. Power is important to the Tamworth’s history as it became the first city in Australia to be lit by municipal electric street lighting. Here we explore the history of innovation, and the important role electricity plays in our everyday lives at Australia’s only dedicated electrical museum. It’s lunch time and we now head to the Big Golden Guitar Centre. Along with the information centre it also houses the National Guitar Museum that has an impressive collection of guitars from across the world. This afternoon we visit the Walk a Country Mile and The Australian Country Music Hall of Fame. Learn all about the story of Australian country music. From the welcome introduction by multi-award-winning actor and Australian icon Jack Thompson, we will experience fascinating exhibits, audio visual presentations and an amazing display of memorabilia. Many of Australia’s major country music stars, past and present, are represented in the displays and many have supplied their own special souvenirs and keepsakes to make this exhibition a very special experience.
