Event description

Last February, at the occasion of the AI Action Summit held in Paris, along with 61 other countries, Australia signed a Statement on Inclusive and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence for People and the Planet. We’re interested in bringing these international discussions to the ANU.

Join us for an expert panel discussion to delve into what different parts of the ANU are up to when it comes to AI Safety & Sustainability! Our panellists are ANU experts and scholars from medical research, computing, maths and cybernetics. They will share their take on what sustainable and safe AI means to them and their specific field. We will discuss practices in data science, sustainable development and smart cities, biology and more.

Meet our Panellists:

  • Gaetan Burgio, MD, PhD, Genome Editing and Microbial Immunity Group Leader at the John Curtin School of Medical Research.
  • Rim El Kadi, PhD, Visiting Research Fellow at the ANU School of Cybernetics and AFRAN ACT Hub Leader.
  • Jing Jang, Professor, Intelligent Systems Cluster at the ANU School of Computing.
  • Katharine Turner, Associate Professor, Director of the Mathematical Data Science Centre.

The discussion will be facilitated by Charles Gretton, Associate Professor at the ANU School of Computing and Director of Attention and Innovation at the Integrated AI Network.

This event includes a light lunch and encourages networking opportunities.

You will be able to share any accessibility or dietary needs when you register.
