Event description

AKALA NEWMAN- THE SOUND OF POP TO COME

Ft. Jamaica Moana, Fetu Taku, Jannawi & DJ Lady Chika.

Take part in an immersive concert experience showcasing Sydney’s most boundary-pushing artists. Pop visionary and curator, Akala Newman has assembled an armada of performers pioneering the new face of music - a movement of infectious bangers and new wave production, unbound by the limitations of the commercial music industry. Catapulting First Nations, CALD and Queer performers to center stage, Akala invites you to witness the sound of pop to come.

After receiving funding from Create NSW - Creative Koori Projects, Akala Newman began her residency at the iconic Red Rattler Theatre to explore and expand her solo work as a performing artist and event producer. In the umbrella of Gili Gatherings which she founded as a part of this grant to re-imagine the live event through curated residencies, performances, and workshops across various mediums to celebrate and center First Nation, CALD, and LGBTQI+ creatives. Gilli means to shine in the Gadigal language, you won't want to miss the work of these vibrant artists as they glow and transcend time. Akala Newman is humbled to collaborate with these renowned artists as part of this project:
