Melbourne Latvian community’s concert performance in memory of Jānis Peters!
The Australian Latvian Theatre (ALT) invites you to a heartfelt and unifying event—a concert performance “Forever Belonging,” dedicated to the memory of the outstanding Latvian poet
Jānis Peters.
Jānis Peters – a poet with the soul of his people.
Jānis Peters (1939–2025) was one of the brightest masters of Latvian lyric poetry. His poetry is imbued with a love for the homeland, a sense of national destiny, and poetic clarity. It reveals both personal reflections and collective experiences, exploring the richness and melodiousness of the Latvian language.
In his texts, one can hear the memory of Latvian people’s pain as well as hope, faith, and the presence of soulful strength.
The poet’s words have left a lasting mark in the space of Latvian poetry, music, and culture.
About the concert performance
This will not only be a musical event, but also a theatrical and dance performance—an emotional and community-unifying experience.
All performed songs will use the words of Jānis Peters to compositions by many outstanding Latvian composers.
