Albany Primary School MTB Track Build
Event description
Albany-based not-for-profit Outdoors Great Southern is partnering with Albany Primary School to construct Albany’s first mountain bike trail loop on school grounds with the help of community volunteers.
With the explosion in participation in mountain biking (MTB) as a recreational activity, the track is expected to be a popular addition to the school’s outdoor facilities.
Outdoors Great Southern Trail Maintenance Supervisor Brett Pengelley said the not-for-profit organization was delighted to facilitate and deliver the construction of the infrastructure.
School and community volunteers, including Albany Mountain Bike Club, will gather to get construction underway on Saturday, 26 March.
The trail project is jointly funded through Connecting Schools Grants; a grant program led by the Your Move team at the Department of Transport, and the Department of Education. The project was initiated by Albany Primary School’s P+C, parents, students and staff as a way of promoting active transport. To find out more about the school’s Your Move activities, visit this site.
Volunteers are required to register and undergo a brief induction to take part to ensure the days activities are done in a safe and legal manner.
Volunteers should wear suitable clothing including work boots, hat, sunglasses and are encouraged to bring gloves. There will be a limited number of tools onsite so bring along hand tools if they are in good condition such as steel rakes, shovels and wheelbarrows.
