Algo.Rhythm is the musical almagamation of, and love-letter to everything in my life that has shaped and formed me.
Family played quite a large role in shaping my music. I was born and raised in the South-East Suburbs of Naarm (Melbourne) to a Chilean father and Mauritian mother, and they taught me everything I know about music. You can hear the influence of my combined South-American and African ethnic heritage come through in my music, particularly with my use of layered percussion, and guitar patterns. Along with my parents I have also been shaped by my other musical family members; my sisters Vessa & C000kie, and my cousin Jordan Dennis.
Growing up in Australia as part of an immigrant family, I never felt fully reconciled to any of my cultural identities. Instead, I found solace in music, movies/TV, video-games, and books. As a kid ‘playing on the computer’ looked like my sisters and I making beats on a cracked version of Acid Pro my dad had installed on the family computer.
All this to say, music is my primary cultural identity. I was born into music, it’s where I fit in.
Secondary to music, my city is my culture. I love Naarm, and I am grateful for everything this city has given me, creating a space where I can fully express myself and my art.
Part of my mission as Algo.Rhythm is to elevate the Melbourne music scene - I love collaborating with the other creatives across this city to show the world what this place has to offer.
