Event description
NIBS and Overland Present: All That is Solid Melts Into Air...
Friday the 21st of February 2025 marks 177 years since the publication of The Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels' provocation to the workers of the world to awake from their slumber, to abolish private property and all existing values, and move towards the creation of a completely different world.
In this spirit, the New International Book Shop and Overland are hosting a series of readings to celebrate the lasting punch these 30 odd pages have had, hearing from some of our favourite poets working in the left tradition in Naarm. Readings from Harry Reid, Ursula Robinson-Shaw, Lucy Van, Daniel Lopez and Evelyn Araluen.
Join us at the Institute of Postcolonial Studies from 6pm. Tickets for free, drinks available by donation, copies of Overland and a selection of books from NIBS will also be there to browse. Limited capacity so please book a ticket.
Kindly supported by the City of Melbourne and the SEARCH Foundation.
"All that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is profaned, and man is at last compelled to face with sober senses his real conditions of life, and his relations with his kind."
