You are invited to join Dr Clare Land and JAM! for this informative workshop to explore tensions and dilemmas in non-Indigenous engagement with supporting First Peoples struggles in southeast Australia. In a safe environment, Clare will lead us to explore the politics of solidarity, decolonisation and what it means to be an ally. This workshop could help you answer some of those tricky questions e.g. "How can I be a supporter if I don't know any First People?" or "What will First People want me to do?" or "What is decolonisation and how does it involve me?" You will benefit from Clare's experience and insight, meet some fellow allies and learn how we can walk together towards achieving racial justice in Australia.

About Clare -
Clare Land is a non-Aboriginal person living on Kulin nation land. She has been an active supporter of Aboriginal struggles since 1998. She aims to do justice to the education she has received from legendary local Aboriginal community activists by sharing it with others. Clare will be sharing some of the insight and wisdom she has gained through her experience in community and academic work in pursuit of furthering the cause of justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through her groundbreaking book Decolonizing Solidarity, and her related work, Clare aims to inspire, support and give direction to the work of people who support Aboriginal struggles.

About Cooinda -
Opened in August 2023, Cooinda, meaning ‘happy place’, was founded by Uncle Boots Cooper & Aunty Joyce. It is a culturally safe and welcoming space in Furlong Rd, Sunshine North, where communities can come together to connect with each other and enhance reconciliation, healing and wellbeing. Cooinda is currently operating three days a week, offering a Koorie Homework Club, Elders’ group, art classes and yarning circles. Over time the Centre will provide a diverse range of programs, events and activities to the whole of Brimbank.
