Alpenglow in Watercolor
Event description
alpenglow in watercolor
Tuesday, September 16th | 6 PM | Our Lady of the Snows | $5 | Sign-up Required
In this class, students will learn how to create a simple composition in watercolors to capture the light of alpenglow in the mountains. Students will learn a variety of watercolor techniques, such as wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry, as well as guides for accurate color mixing. Students will leave the class with 1-2 small paintings (roughly 5x7 or 8x10in) to take home.
Kristen is a self-taught oil and watercolor painter hailing from the southeast. She was initially drawn out west for prime outdoor recreation and a closer connection to the mountains. She took up landscape painting as a way of capturing her adventures in the outdoors and sharing the wonder she feels in those places with others. Notable for her use of vibrant color and sharp detail, landscape work highlights the wild beauty of the Wasatch mountains and the southern Utah desert. Her work often starts in the form of a small study painted en Plein air that is taken back and scaled up into larger works in her studio. Above all, Kristen aims to create art that captures the wonder of these places that we all feel collectively when we visit them, as well as to honor that which is worth protecting in the West.
