Description

Altar of Belonging Women Circle

Where we come together to create who we are

An altar is a threshold. It is a place where the ordinary and the sacred meet. Where everyday life pauses, and something larger is invited in.

This August, we gather to build something with our hands and our stories: a shared altar of belonging.

Every culture that has ever walked this earth has built altars. The family shrines of Japan, the ofrendas of Mexico, the stone cairns of Celtic pilgrims, the sacred markings of the first peoples of this land. The impulse to gather, to arrange with intention, to mark what is holy, is one of the most universal human acts there is.

When we arrange objects with care; a stone, a candle, a photograph, a seed, we are declaring that these things matter. That we matter. That life is not just something that happens to us, but something we meet with reverence.

An altar also bears witness. It holds what we cannot always hold alone... our grief and our gratitude, set down side by side. It says: I cannot carry this inside me alone, and so I place it here. Not to lock things away, but to hold them with dignity.

And when we build an altar together, we weave community. I bring my stone. You bring your seed. She brings her petal. Together we make something none of us could make alone. A shared altar is belonging in its most honest and elemental form.

What We Will Do Together

I hold these circles as spaces to slow down, listen inwardly, and remember what we already know. The evening will move gently through:

  • A guided meditation to settle you into your body and open your inner listening

  • Storytelling and reflection on the altar as threshold, witness and community

  • The building of a shared circle altar using natural materials

  • A personal offering ritual, adding your own object or intention to the altar we build together

  • Gentle, unhurried sharing within a safe and held container

The Shared Altar

Using the four elements as our foundation — earth, water, fire and air — we will build a living altar together, grain by grain, stone by stone. Each woman brings something small: a seed, a shell, a flower, a word. Nothing is required to be beautiful. It only needs to be true.

Like a sand mandala, this altar is never meant to be permanent. What we build together on the night will be released back to the earth - a reminder that belonging is not something we build once, but something we tend.

Is This for You?

This circle is for women who feel the pull to slow down, to be witnessed, and to belong to something larger than themselves. You don't need any experience with this kind of work. You only need a willingness to be present, and to bring one small thing to place on the altar.
