Soil Testing, Amendments & Building Better Soils – A Grower Conversation with Dan Mladenov.

Join Otago Organics for an online discussion with Dan Mladenov of Seacliff Organics and Lisa Johnston of Frog Song Farm.

Whether you're a market gardener, small-scale grower, or simply interested in improving soil health, this session will explore how to optimise your soil fertility in a cost effective way.

Topics include:

- What soil tests can (and can't) tell you
-How to interpret results and identify the key numbers that matter
-Common nutrient deficiencies and excesses in Otago soils
-Organic amendment options: costs, benefits, limitations and release rates
-How to avoid wasting money through over-application of fertilisers and compost
-Using calcium, magnesium and mineral balancing to improve soil structure
-Building biology and getting more from less-soluble nutrient sources
-Assessing compost quality
-Free tools and AI resources that can help growers interpret soil tests themselves

We'll also discuss current fertiliser supply challenges, what growers can do to build resilience, and answer questions from participants.
A practical conversation to help growers become more confident, informed and self-sufficient in managing soil fertility.
