Support Act are bringing the nationally-accredited Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid training to musicians, managers, crew and music workers again this year.

This course is specifically targeted at First Nations peoples and non-indigenous people working with First Nations peoples.

You'll learn how to:
+ Recognise common mental health issues
+ Provide initial help using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan
+ Respond in a Mental Health crisis situation
+ Seek appropriate professional help

First Nations Mental Health First Aid is available for free (normally $330) thanks to Support Act.

This training is designed for those who work professionally in the music industry and work with First Nations peoples.

This program covers similar content to the Standard MHFA (e.g. ALGEE framework) but also looks at statistics for First Nations peoples and the case studies are based on First Nation experiences.

+ Access to the Mental Health First Aid Australia eLearning training (approx 7 hours)
+ Online Live Online Workshop with expert facilitators (5 hours)

About the Facilitator: Deon Bird

I'm a husband, father of 4, proud Aboriginal man, ex-footy player, wanna-be podcaster & a Mens Mental Health Advocate. I was fortunate to play professional Rugby League for 11 years between 1996 & 2006, both in the NRL and the English Super League and when I think back I thought I was put on this earth to play footy.

However, after retiring I fell into Indigenous mentoring and quickly realised what I was truly meant to do and that was support young Indigenous men and women. Fast forward 11 years and I am still fortunate to be working in this sector but this has been taken to another level, as I have developed a passion for mental health and in particular the mental health and well-being of First Nations peoples. I am proud that I can now continue to assist Indigenous men and women by empowering others, through the delivery of these Mental Health courses.
