Amygdala
Painted Tree Gallery
northcliffe, australia
Event description
The amygdala is part of the limbic system and controls memory and emotion. The practice of deliberate nasal rhythmic breathing affects the amygdala. This concept of rhythmic breathing and the transient nature of a single breath is the seed from which this installation developed. Clusters of fragile, layered paper spheres communicate the barely visible existence of breath and translates the thoughts, memories and emotions that for a moment linger, pass, and then are lost.
A collective language between Cowper and Steyn, Amygdala decodes and translates visual memories, artistic voices, and breath into a three-dimensional tangible reality.
