Join us at Black & Tan Hall for a special Sankofa Books and Brunch conversation with award-winning author David F. Walker, as he shares from his latest book, Black Film: A History of Black Representation and Participation in the Movies: a powerful exploration of Black representation and participation in American cinema.

Enjoy Chef Tay's delicious brunch menu as we move through the images, narratives, and turning points that have defined Black cinema. It's not a distant history, but something living, evolving, and deeply connected to who we are today.

The afternoon brunch vibe begins with a screening of Macked, Hammered, Slaughtered and Shafted, Walker's acclaimed documentary exploring the rise, influence, and enduring legacy of the Blaxploitation era.

From the style and soundtracks to the larger cultural conversations these films sparked, we'll revisit a period that transformed what audiences expected from Hollywood and expanded what was possible for Black stories on screen.

Following the screening, Walker will discuss his latest book, Black Film, taking us on a deeper journey through the history of Black cinema and its lasting impact on the industry, popular culture, and our collective imagination.

The event is free, but reservations are recommended.
