An afternoon with Georgette Heyer
Description
M'sieur, I am as a slave to my wife." He kissed the tips of his fingers. "I am as the dirt beneath her feet." He clasped his hands. "I must bestow on her all that she desires, or die!"
"Pray make use of my sword, " invited his Grace.
Was These Old Shades the first Georgette Heyer you read? Are you still in love with Léonie and the Duke of Avon? Did you know that that wonderful novel turns 100 in 2026 and has never been out of print? Would you like to celebrate this important literary anniversary?
On Friday 20 February we will mark this anniversary and celebrate our love of the novels of Georgette Heyer. Acclaimed New Zealand actor Terry McTavish and her two fellow actors will present the theatre piece A Rare Public Appearance by Miss Georgette Heyer, along with scenes from Heyer’s novels. Renowned scholar and Heyer biographer Dr Jennifer Kloester will speak about These Old Shades, while Jane Austen and Heyer expert Susannah Fullerton, OAM, will discuss its ‘sequel’, Devil’s Cub. Jane Caro will talk about Frederica.
A delicious afternoon tea will be served, there will be a raffle, books for sale, and there will be fun games or quizzes to test your Heyer knowledge.
(Please note that Terry will be performing at the JASA meeting on Sat 21 Feb, but that will be a Jane Austen performance and totally different from the Heyer performance. Both will be presented for the first time in Australia)
