An Afternoon with Textile Collector Colleen Morrow
Event description
The Passion of Collecting
An afternoon with textile collector Colleen Morrow
Join us at Fabrik to hear Colleen share the story behind our latest exhibition 100 Treasured Textiles, sourced from her private collection. Currently on show are traditional textiles and artifacts produced throughout the archipelago of Indonesia, including embroidery, batik and weaving.
About the presenter: Colleen started collecting textiles from Indonesia in 1972 after seeing a neighbour's box of weavings from Bali. This began a journey of learning about Indonesian culture (particularly from Bali and Java), including the study of Batik and the relationship between traditional weaving and dyeing techniques.
For over 50 years Colleen has shared her accumulated knowledge at international Batik conferences. She also became an importer of Indonesian textiles, artifacts and jewellery. She refers to these decades as an epic passion of collecting.
