Join Kol Halev, Multicultural Alliance for Yes, Beit Shalom, Welcoming Australia and Hazara's for Yes for an evening discussion about the Voice to Parliament with support from Activate Church, Australian Sikh Support, AUJS, Australian Tamil Arts and the Adelaide Tamil community, Churches Together SA, Fair Go SA and MACSA.
This is a unique opportunity to hear from experts such as Khatija Thomas and Senior Lecturer Cornelia Koch on the proposed change to the constitution and have your questions, concerns and confusions answered and addressed in a safe and supportive environment.
Khatija Thomas is a proud Kokatha woman born in Port Augusta. She completed a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice at Flinders University of South Australia in 2000 and was admitted to practise in the Supreme Court of South Australia in February 2001. She has worked as a Solicitor in community legal centres focused on delivery of legal representation and advocacy for women, Aboriginal people and native title groups. Following a successful career in law, Khatija spent four years as the State’s Commissioner for Aboriginal Engagement from 2011 to 2015. In this public advocacy role she raised the profile of Aboriginal people and issues in South Australia. Khatija then managed the office of the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement in Port Augusta for two years. In more recent years, she has held the position of Director of Aboriginal engagement in the Department of Infrastructure and Transport and Law, Policy and Advocacy officer at the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement. Khatija has now established a consultancy Company called Kuddiya Pty Ltd whose main focus is cultural awareness, cultural competency, facilitation, Aboriginal Justice initiatives and Aboriginal Engagement brokerage.
