An evening for orangutans
Get your team together for a fun night of trivia, stories, video and orangutan conservation at Tūhura Otago Museum.
Test your general knowledge across five rounds of questions covering wildlife, science, geography, New Zealand and general knowledge, hosted by Quiz Maestro Helen Lobb.
Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, a quiz fanatic or simply looking for a fun night out with friends, there’s something for everyone.
But this isn’t just any quiz night
Halfway through the evening, we’ll have a brief interlude where you’ll hear from Dunedin filmmaker and storyteller Judith Curran, creator of the award-winning series Orangutan Jungle School and Orangutan Island, both produced here in Dunedin at NHNZ.
Judith will be joined by Indonesian conservation worker, Zahrah Ratna Sari, who is currently studying at the University of Otago.
Together, they’ll share stories, photos and video, and talk about the challenges facing orangutans and their rainforest homes in Borneo and Sumatra.

Food and drinks will be available to purchase from Precinct Café throughout the evening. Halfway through the quiz there will be a drinks break + conservation stories with Judith and Zahrah.

- Will there be food?
Yes! Precinct Café will be open throughout the evening, with snacks and drinks available to purchase. There’ll also be a break halfway through the quiz, giving you time to grab a drink, have a chat and check out the fundraising activities.
- Can I buy an individual ticket?
No. Tickets are sold by the team, with each table accommodating up to six people.

- What is your refund policy?
Tickets are non-refundable. As this is a fundraising event, your ticket purchase will be helping support orangutan conservation.
- Where do the proceeds go?
All proceeds from the quiz night will go to Orangutan Outreach to support orangutan conservation in Borneo and Sumatra.
There’ll also be opportunities to make additional donations through our Donorbox fundraiser or directly to Orangutan Outreach.
- Who is Orangutan Outreach?
Orangutan Outreach is a conservation organisation dedicated to protecting orangutans and their rainforest habitat in Borneo and Sumatra.
They support projects that protect orangutans in their natural habitats, care for rescued and orphaned orangutans, and work with local conservation partners and communities to protect these incredible animals.

- Where can I park?
There is no visitor car park at the Museum, but metered parking is available on the surrounding streets from $3.5/hour (free after 6pm).
