An evening of music & celebration with The Rosa Centre
Description
Eight years ago, I visited East Africa for the first time and met people who changed the way I saw the world. Some of what I saw shocked me, but it was getting to know people and listening to their stories that left me with a question: What could I do to support people who had been forgotten?
Six years ago, I acted on that question. The Rosa Centre grew from conversations, relationships and a determination to do something tangible. Today, it supports women to build businesses, helps children learn basic literacy and numeracy, and guides young men towards a healthier path.
Earlier this year, our Giving Circle raised the money to repair walls and install a pipe that brought water into the Centre. This year, we’re gathering in Sydney to help bring electricity to the Centre, secure its fencing and gates, increase stock for the women’s businesses, and buy chairs for the 92 children who currently sit on a mud floor to learn.
We’ve also launched Move The Man, supporting 14 young men to move away from militia involvement. Football is the starting point for mentoring that can offer purpose, opportunity and belonging.
On the night, some of the women from The Rosa Centre and Andrew, our Kenyan director, will join us live via Zoom to tell their stories. There’ll be raffles, a silent auction and live music from my band, That Escalated Quickly! My wonderful rocking buddy Dan has generously agreed to perform with me at no cost to the Centre.
Most of all, this is a chance to come together, see what six years of showing up has made possible, and help decide what comes next.
Come and be part of our circle.
This is an invitation-only event. Pub food and drinks will be available to purchase on the night. The room is kindly donated by The Redfern,
