An Evening with Jess Hitchcock

Event description

Melbourne-based Indigenous singer-songwriter Jess Hitchcock celebrates the release of her album Unbreakable with a very special Sound Doctor show.

Jess has stirred the Australian music and performing arts scene as a genre-defying force.  Her powerful voice and knack for storytelling has seen her shine across pop, country, folk, opera and music theatre, sharing the stage and studio with some of Australia's favourites.

One of Jess's most notable collaborations is with legendary Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly.  Together they performed and recorded Paul's song, ‘Everyday My Mother’s Voice’, earning standing ovations across the nation. Jess has also collaborated with Archie Roach, Tina Arena, Kate Miller-Heidke and Lisa Mitchell.  And Sound Doctor fans may remember her from Mission Songs Project in 2018.

If you needed any more reason to join us on Saturday 29 July, we’ve added indie-pop artist Jem Cassar-Daley as support.  Jem has been dazzling the Australian music scene since her debut in 2021 with a world class sound that is a unique combination drawing from favourites like Missy Higgins, Phoebe Bridgers, Angus and Julia Stone, and Carole King.  The result is a gorgeously diverse soundscape of soul, indie, pop grooves.  Her captivating performances, stellar vocals and timeless songwriting earned her the Indigenous Award at the 2022 Queensland Music Awards.

This special night of music will take you back to Sound Doctor gigs of old, with Anglesea Hall filled with stunning vocals and beautiful storytelling. Choose a seat (unreserved) for $45 or take up the standing option - the venue will be a mixture of both.
