An Evening with Lama Rod Owens: Love and Rage in Uncertain Times
In a time of division, uncertainty and profound change, Lama Rod invites us to consider: How do we care for ourselves without turning away from the challenges of our time? How do we build communities capable of sustaining care, resilience and lasting change?
Lama Rod is one of the most influential contemporary Buddhist teachers and a leading voice on 'race', love, justice and collective care. A Black Buddhist Southern Queen, Harvard Divinity School graduate, author of The New Saints and Love and Rage, and co-author of Radical Dharma, his work brings spiritual practice into conversation with social change, identity, grief, healing and liberation. He is an authorised Lama (teacher) in the Kagyu School of Tibetan Buddhism.
Across Australia, there is growing interest in the role of spiritual practice and wisdom traditions in responding to racism, ecological crisis, trauma, grief, and disconnection. At the same time, many spiritual communities are challenged to become more inclusive, accessible, and representative of diverse communities, including First Nations, people of colour, LGBTIQA+, and people with disabilities.
With a lifelong focus on the intersection of social change, identity, and spiritual practice, Lama Rod brings a unique perspective to conversations that are increasingly needed in Australia today.
