An Introduction to Thinking Strategically

"After decades of neoliberalism the left has largely lost its ability to offer a vision of an alternative to capitalism. This course will be a deep dive into the history and practices when the left was at the forefront of creating radical change. This course aims to plant the seeds of new possibilities..."

This is an eight-week course introducing the basics of strategic thinking as well as examining how we create a culture of strategy in the radical left in Melbourne.  

Course outline.

Week 1 (25/02): Introduction to Strategy

Week 2 (04/03): Sun Tzu, Mao Zedong and the people's war.

Week 3 (11/03): Vietnam's defeat of the U.S.

Week 4 (18/03): The Black Panther Party.

Week 5 (01/04): Gramsci and the re-imagining of revolution.

Week 6 (08/04): José Mariátegui, Cuba and Latin American Marxism.

Week 7 (15/04): The Zapatista struggle.

Week 8 (22/04): Revolution in Australia?

The classes will be held at the New International Bookshop in Trades Hall.
Classes will go from 6 - 8.30pm. Readings and resources for the course will be available upon registering.

There is now also an ONLINE option, which will give participants interstate an opportunity to join. A ZOOM link will be provided for all online tickets, please note if you require one upon checkout.

There is a sliding scale regarding costs:

$150 unwaged / $200 underemployed / $250 waged / supporter $300.
Prices can be negotiated.
