Event description

We are happy you are interested in joining us for Anam Thubten’s visit to Olympia. Anam Thubten grew up in Tibet and at an early age began to practice in the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. He currently resides in the San Francisco Bay area. He is the founder and spiritual advisor of Dharmata Foundation, teaching widely in the US, Europe, and Asia. He is the author of several books, including Embracing Each Moment, No Self No Problem, and The Magic of Awareness. Through sharing his wisdom and personal experience on the spiritual path, Anam Thubten brings alive the timeless teachings of Buddhism.

His Friday evening talk and the Saturday meditation retreat will be in the Social Hall at United Churches (UC) at 110 11th Ave SE, Olympia. The church is quickly and easily reached from I-5 and is easy walking distance to downtown Olympia. There is ample free street parking near the church.

There are three important aspects of meditation: mindful attention, open awareness, and loving kindness. By practicing these, we can let go of negative mental patterns and expand our heart and mind, bringing about joy, peace, and inner freedom. Anam Thubten will teach and guide participants in developing these three aspects of meditation and share Buddhist wisdom on working with our thoughts and emotions. Through the essential wisdom of Buddhism and his personal experiences on the spiritual path, Anam Thubten brings alive the timeless teachings and invites everyone to participate.

The Friday evening public talk is from 6:45-9:00pm. Donations to support the work of the Dharmata Foundation are gratefully accepted at the door. The Saturday event is 9:10am-4:00pm and costs $75 (plus sales tax and Humanitix booking fee, total $86.62). There is a small additional surcharge if you pay using either American Express or PayPal. If the cost is financially problematic for you, please contact Sherry at waltonsherry38@yahoo.com.

Seating is limited so register soon. Registration is required. To register, click the Get Tickets box above.

If you plan to come to the Saturday retreat only, you still must register here. If you plan to use a meditation cushion for the Saturday retreat, please be aware the floor is cement so we recommend you bring both your cushion and a mat.

If you need a place to stay, the Red Lion Inn and Suites (formerly the Governor's Hotel), Olympia Inn, Phoenix Inn, and AirBnBs in the Capitol Neighborhood area are within walking distance of the venue. There also are many hotels within short driving distance.

Several cafes and sandwich shops are also within walking distance for lunch on Saturday.
