Honouring Matriarchal Wisdom Across Cultures
Description
International Women’s Day Gathering
Event Overview
Honouring Matriarchal Wisdom Across Cultures is an International Women’s Day gathering presented by Sisters in Colour.
The event centres elder women as leaders, cultural anchors and knowledge holders, honouring the wisdom of mothers, aunties and matriarchs across multicultural communities.
The gathering also marks the official launch of the Sisters in Colour coffee table book tour, positioning the book as a cultural archive and legacy for future generations.
Event Description
Across cultures, mothers and aunties hold families and communities together through language, care, ritual and lived leadership. Yet their wisdom and influence are often undervalued or rendered invisible.
This event creates a respectful, elder-led space to honour matriarchal leadership and explore how strength, feminism and identity are expressed differently across cultures. Through storytelling, dialogue and reflection, participants will consider how cultural wisdom is preserved, diluted or passed on across generations within an Australian context.
Elders guide the conversation, with younger generations invited to listen, learn and engage in meaningful intergenerational exchange.
