Description

'And ... Action!' brings film studies research into a community setting, allowing primary school-aged children to make and exhibit their own films with the hope of developing powerful inter-generational conversations on climate change action in their community.

In the lead up to the event, local children based at St Michael’s Primary School will conceptualise, plan and shoot short films on the theme of climate change and community, creating ideas of an ideal climate future for Aigburth. The films will be screened to community, family, friends and the children themselves at St Michael-in-the-Hamlet Church.

The audience will be invited to take part in group discussions to determine how the radical (open-minded and imaginative) vision of children can be better deployed in solving social problems at a local level. The Church will also introduce local young musicians into this event. The activities aim to give radical voice to children in a way that is safe and localised to their urban village.

St Michael's Church is located within half a mile of St Michael’s railway station, which has links with major railway stations in Liverpool and Manchester. St Michael’s station is equipped with lifts on both platforms. Please contact the organiser regarding specific access requirements.

This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 9–18 November 2023. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. For further information please see beinghumanfestival.org. The event is also supported by the School of Creative and Performing Arts at Liverpool Hope University.
