Andersons Bay Cemetery
Andersons Bay Cemetery
dunedin, new zealand
Event description
Andy Bay is the largest and most recent of Dunedin's three main cemeteries. Â
One of the gravestones it contains should literally not be there - it was installed without a permit. Â
There are many soldiers buried and commemorated there; one died on New Zealand's worst and most fatal day of combat. Â
We also find Dunedin's famous hermit of Flagstaff Hill, the first New Zealand death of World War 2, a mass grave (not reported in newspapers of the day) of victims to the Spanish Flu pandemic during 1918 and much more.
- Meet in the carpark of the Anderson's Bay cemetery in the corner closest to the main entrance. You'll see Gregor and his hat, he can't be missed!
- Wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for the weather. The cemetery has little shade and is quite exposed so on a hot day, wear sun protection and bring water.
- You're welcome to take photos and videos during the tour and share to social media.
- 90 minutes longÂ
- Tickets are self refundable up to one day before the event. Booking fee not refunded. If you can't attend because you're unwell after refunds have closed, email darkestdunedin@gmail.com for a credit.
