Guest Speaker: Senator Anthony Chisholm, Assistant Minister for Education and Assistant Minister for Regional Development
Andrew Fisher began his political career in Gympie as an active unionist for the Coal and Mining Industry. He represented Gympie in Queensland state parliament before moving into federal politics as the Federal Member for Wide Bay. He served three terms 1908-09, 1910-13, 1914-1915, and was Australia’s fifth Prime Minister.
Fisher formed the very first Labor government and implemented a wide range of significant legislation including
- Workmen's Compensation Act
- Old Age Pensions Act
- Maternity Allowance
- Commonwealth Bank Act
