Three actors are thrown together to perform scenes at random from a controversial new play. What happens next will strain the limits of professional objectivity as their lived experiences blur with the violent narrative onstage. Shortlisted for the 2023 Griffin Award, Animal interrogates Australia’s crisis of masculinity in a feral fever dream.

    CONTENT WARNINGS:

    Animal is a confrontational work that uses absurdity and humour to examine themes and content that may be distressing to some audiences. Please be advised that this show contains offensive language, ableist and homophobic slurs, depictions of physical violence, verbal abuse, ablism, animal cruelty and bestiality. Mentions of sexual abuse, sexual assault, rape, incest, suicide, self-harm and implications of child sexual abuse. 

    Audiences are advised that they are able to leave the auditorium at any time - and are encouraged to seek assistance from the Front of House team as needed. However, due to the nature of the performance, patrons will not be readmitted.

    We welcome all visitors to ESCAC and are committed to making it accessible and inclusive for everyone. The venue is wheelchair accessible, with accessible car spaces available out the front on Burton Street. We accept companion cards and welcome assistance animals.
