Upsammy (nl)

Based in Amsterdam, Thessa Torsing aka upsammy operates at the porous edges of sound and image, where organic textures meet synthetic forms. Her work moves with a kind of lucid geometry: crystalline melodies, off-axis rhythms, and tones that shimmer like wet leaves in electric light. Drawing on a background in Image and Media Technology, she folds field recordings and microscopic detail into ambient structures, experimental drum work, and alien club patterns collapsing genre into atmosphere.

As a producer, DJ, and visual collaborator (notably with artist Jonathan Castro), her world-building spans audio, photography and video, each medium feeding into the next. Her live sets and NTS Radio residency echo this sensibility: narratively rich, playful, and never static.

With releases on Nous’klaer, AD93, PAN, and Dekmantel, upsammy has carved a distinct path through the avant-electronic landscape. Following Germ in a Population of Buildings (PAN, 2023), she returns to Dekmantel with Open Catalyst, a new EP that stretches her sound further into ghosted breaks, refracted ambience and liquid temporality.
