    Event description

We are delighted to invite you to the launch of the Report from the “Developing systems and capacities to protect animals in catastrophic fires” research project.

The 2019/2020 bushfires were devastating for humans and other animals. Yet, in the face of crisis, many people in the Shoalhaven community went above and beyond to care for and protect animals, both wild and domesticated.

Since 2022, over 60 people from the Shoalhaven spoke with us about their experiences and insights about what worked, and what didn’t, for animals during that time. We’re now at the conclusion of the project and would like to share our findings with you, thank you for your invaluable contributions to the research, and provide an opportunity to discuss the findings and consider next steps.

By sharing your experiences, you have not only helped to create a record of what occurred but also ensured that your community’s experiences will inform better systems, policies, and responses for future disasters. The findings and recommendations derived from your involvement will support stronger community action, helping to safeguard both human and animal lives in times of crisis.

We hope you will join us as we take this opportunity to acknowledge your essential role in this research and to discuss the positive impact it will have for the future.

We will share a full copy of the report with all attendees before the event, so you have time to read it beforehand if you like.

You’re welcome to bring along partners, children, and other family/community members who you’d like to invite. Food and drink will be provided.
