Anne Edwards
Event description
Anne Edwards Workshop
Anne Edwards is a Blue Mountains potter of 38 years. She was mentored by Col Levy and Maureen Williams during her HSC and the resulting pots travelled around the country in the ArtExpress exhibition. She then taught herself to throw on the wheel and this has been an obsession lasting for several decades, living and working with clay in Japan, Brazil, Germany, London and Bangkok. Fifteen years or so ago Anne started making her own glazes and reduction firing. She is currently seeing results after working on a shino glaze for the past ten years, and continues to work with copper red, chun, and various other reduction-fired glazes. Anne's interest in breath work and how it influences and shapes her potting style has come out of being a yoga teacher for 20 years. Although she does not give formal pottery classes, her pottery/breath workshop is an introduction to incorporating breath work into a throwing practise which can assist both beginner and more experienced potters.
Experience the link between pottery and breath work
This pottery/breath workshop is designed to teach you effective ways of breathing that will enhance your practices and well being. The workshop begins with 30 minutes of breathing techniques accompanied by simple movements, and participants will subsequently practice the breath techniques in the pottery studio as Anne shows you how to make a pot on the wheel. Beginners and experienced potters are all welcome. Anne has combined wheel-throwing with breathing techniques in this workshop because that is how she makes her own pots. As a long time potter, yoga practitioner and teacher, the breath (and how she uses it), is the reason why her work emanates such peace.
