Annual 5k Walk & Run Inspiring Hope for Sickle Cell

We are raising money to be able to continue our efforts to educate the community about the health disparities experienced by sickle cell patients.  Sickle cell is the #1 hereditary disorder.  The national life expectancy for sickle cell patients is currently 40 but patients are defying those odds daily.  Patients have a weakened immune system that makes them more susceptible to become ill from even just the common cold.  Patients experience having to take many forms of medication to try and help keep themselves healthy.  This particular populations also experiences discrimination when seeking medical treatment due to false narratives created many years ago.  We are excited about this event and look forward to seeing you soon.

Each registered participant will receive a warrior passport.  The passport will be used to keep track of your laps walked around the fountain.  10 laps around Mirror lake equate to a full 5k.  You may walk or run for this event.  There will be 4 stations you can stop at to have your passport marked for lap completion!  As usual, the first 3 men and the first 3 women will receive medals.

There will be vendors selling food and paraphernalia in support of our awareness campaign.  You will have an opportunity to speak to members of our board and some patients to get first hand account of their life with this debilitating disease.
