Requiem for Solo Guitar is an ethereal musical performance exploring themes of divinity, mortality and the transcendent through the artistry of one of Australia’s most innovative guitarists Anthony Garcia. The concert will integrate original compositions and improvisations developed through deep reflection and contemplation on life, death and the fragile, transitory nature of the human experience. Dedicated to loved ones passed and the guides and angels who oversee and support us through our worldly experience the concert will act as a conduit between dimensions, a healing meditative immersion into the distinctive sound worlds of an inspired artist.

ABOUT Anthony Garcia

Anthony Garcia is an acclaimed guitarist, composer, and educator based in Brisbane, Australia. With a diverse cultural background and a global perspective, Garcia has made a significant impact in the world of music through his recordings, performances, and collaborations.

Garcia's musical philosophy is rooted in exploration and embraces a wide range of influences, from ancient to contemporary forms, world and ethnic musics, and improvisational practices. As a soloist and collaborator, he has captivated audiences across Australia, Mexico, Japan, USA, China, and Thailand, collaborating with artists from diverse backgrounds.

His discography boasts a rich collection of recordings, including "La Luna de Merida" featuring classical guitar works by Mertz, Villa Lobos, Albeniz, and J.S. Bach, as well as original works such as "Skyflyer" and "Malili Dreaming" for solo guitar. Notable collaborations include "Desert Stars Dancing" with didgeridoo master William Barton, "Moliendo Café" with Latin Harpist Sandra Real, and the self-titled rock album "Soniclines" with Tyrone Noonan and William Barton.

Garcia's educational journey includes degrees in Modern Asian Studies and Music from Griffith University, a first-class honours and Masters degree from the University of Queensland, and a PhD from the University of Tasmania. He has also shared his knowledge and passion through lectures on culture and creativity at universities and in corporate settings, highlighting the transformative power of creative practice.

As a composer, Garcia has contributed to various genres, including solo guitar, chamber music, contemporary, rock, world music, electro-acoustic trance, experimental fusion, and film soundtracks. His versatile compositions demonstrate his mastery of diverse musical styles.

In addition to his artistic endeavours, Garcia is a dedicated teacher, conducting workshops worldwide for guitarists and musicians of all backgrounds. He founded the not-for-profit arts organization Sounds Across Oceans in 2019, working as an artistic director and creative producer. Currently, he serves as the executive producer of BrisAsia Festival and is the founder and artistic director of The Ground Beneath Us.
