Event description

Held over 5 days at the purpose-built Michael Centre in the leafy outer eastern Melbourne suburb of Warranwood, the two part conference aims to work with committed people from the Southern Hemisphere on questions of understanding and caring for human beings through the life cycle, from child development, through health and illness, with a special focus on cancer as a life challenge, and coming to the end-of-life of the human being.

There is a selection of Specialist Conferences over the first two days, to enhance individual modalities and multi-modality work together, with international guests, Dr Marion Debus from Switzerland (Oncology), Dr Katharina Gerlach from Germany (Eurythmy Therapy) and from Australia, Charlotte Rogers (Anthroposophical Nursing, Art and Massage Therapy) and Lisa Devine (Pastoral Medicine and Grief).

This is followed by a three day General conference featuring case studies and presentations from both keynote speakers alongside local presenters. Anthroposophic medicine from its very beginnings, has incorporated nursing care, manual and artistic therapies and medical work, all vital to the practice of Anthroposophic medical care. Our longing in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific region, including Asia, is always to learn more of what lives in medical practice in other parts of the world.

Introducing the Conference Keynote Speakers:

Dr Adam Blanning (USA) is a co-leader of the Medical Section at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland, author,  international lecturer and co-director of physician training programs for anthroposophic medicine. Dr Blanning practices anthroposophic family medicine at the Denver Center for Anthroposophic Therapies (DenverTherapies.com) in Colorado, USA. While he sees patients of all ages and for various conditions, children’s development has always been a core interest.  Dr. Blanning is the author of Understanding Deeper Developmental Needs: Holistic Approaches for Challenging Behaviors in Children (2017), and Raising Sound Sleepers: Helping Children use their Senses to Rest and Self-soothe (2023).

Dr med. Marion Debus (Switzerland) is the Head of the Department of Oncology and anthroposophic physician at the Klinik Arlesheim, Switzerland. Along with Drs Adam Blanning and Karin Michael, she is also co-leader of the Medical Section at the Goetheanum, Switzerland. She is a senior physician in interdisciplinary oncology, specialist in internal medicine and hemato-oncology. In addition to her work at the Arlesheim Clinic, Marion Debus is the medical editor of the magazine Der Merkurstab. In addition to interdisciplinary oncology, her main areas of medical work are hematological diagnostics, chemotherapy and sonography.

You can attend either or both parts of the conference, or the public lectures separately if you are interested in the keynote speakers and/or Anthropospophic medicine.

Our hope is that this time of sharing and learning together can bring enthusiasm for our growth together as a community, nationally and regionally so that beginners and advanced practitioners of medicine can learn from each other, renew and strengthen old friendships and establish new connections. Organic lunch, dinner, morning and afternoon tea are provided, and morning there is the opportunity to experience together the social and health benefits of eurythmy with Patries Orange. We warmly invite you to join us in bringing our hearts, minds/thoughts and wills together to further this caring work on a day to day basis and for the future.
