From Austerity to Resilience - How to Build a Better Economy | Brussels

This workshop will empower participants to counter the common narrative that public investment is unaffordable or must be paid for by implementing austerity measures.

Whether for healthcare, education, pensions, climate action, and whatever else is needed in the future, you will come away with a true understanding of how governments spend money and what is possible.

Presented by Steven Hail, Associate Professor of Economics at Torrens University and founder of Modern Money Lab. Steven Hail is one of the leading teachers and communicators of MMT globally.

Part 1 (11:00-13:00) Introduction to Modern Monetary Theory as a policy frame
Screening of the film Finding the Money featuring Stephanie Kelton and Warren Mosler, followed by discussion. (Participants who have already watched the film are welcome to join at 12.30 if preferred.)

13:00-13:30 Lunch (sandwiches will be provided, vegan options available)

Part 2 (13:30-18:00) Presentations by Steven Hail and Gabrielle Bond of Modern Money Lab, with Q&A and group discussions. Topics to be covered include:

- MMT and the Eurozone

- Public investment and the cost of living crisis

- Taming the bond market

- Framing a shift from austerity to sufficiency

(Optional) Afternoon / evening social
