Anti-Austerity Economics | Dunedin
Description
This workshop will empower participants to counter the common narrative that public investment is unaffordable or must be paid for by implementing austerity measures.
Whether for healthcare, education, pensions, climate action, and whatever else is needed in the future, you will come away with a true understanding of how national governments spend money and what is possible.
The program will comprise a series of introductory talks by economists Associate Professor Steven Hail and Morgan Edwards, author of the New Economic Management substack. There will be participatory group discussions based on short articles and case studies drawing on anti-austerity economics and Modern Monetary Theory (MMT), as applied to New Zealand.
