Antigone - VCE Theatre Studies Production
Event description
Dates: April 4 and 5 at 7pm
Location: The Black Theatre, Caulfield Grammar School, Caulfield Campus
Sophocles’ Antigone is more than two thousand years old, yet as a story with conflict at its heart, it is still relevant today. Sophocles’ Antigone dramatises the moral struggles and civil disobedience following war. Originally performed in Ancient Athens, during a time of rising national pride, Antigone exposes the dangers of an absolute ruler clouded by his own hubris, and praises the devotion of one woman to justice for her family.
Our VCE Theatre Studies class has taken this classic play and adapted it to a timeless world, where we question gender roles, power dynamics and the concepts of fate and destiny.
